This month’s GreenScreen, Hometown Habitat, is about the importance of native plants, biodiversity, and preserving nature’s beauty. Entomologist Dr. Douglas Tallamy provides the narrative thread that challenges the notion that humans are here and nature is someplace else. His goal is to build “an army of Habitat Heroes”.

We agree that natural ecosystems need protected, so we are organizing a native tree planting for fall 2018 in Barrie. The location is to be determined. Sign up to our volunteer email list to receive updates.

You can also sign up to steward existing native fruit trees in Barrie through our FruitShare program. Harvest Heroes are gearing up to harvest the Saskatoon (aka service) berry around early July. Volunteers have told us they are looking forward to these sweet, juicy berries!
