About Living Green Barrie

Welcome to Living Green Barrie, a cornerstone of environmental advocacy and action in the heart of Barrie for over thirty years. Our journey is rooted in a deep-seated passion for creating a sustainable future. This vision drives us to spearhead initiatives that range from extensive tree-planting campaigns to impactful climate action efforts. We extend an open invitation to the Barrie community and beyond, encouraging individuals to stand alongside us as volunteers, supporters, and environmental advocates. At Living Green Barrie, we believe in the power of collective action to usher in a greener, more sustainable world through education, engagement, and hands-on environmental activities.

Founded in 1991 as Environmental Action Barrie, Living Green Barrie has evolved from its initial focus to address our time’s most pressing environmental challenges. As pioneers in the environmental movement, we introduced innovative projects like the Spring into Clean program, Barrie’s first Community Garden, and a precursor to municipal recycling efforts with our Plastic Recycling Depot.

Our commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through initiatives like the Be Green Barrie program, which facilitated the installation of over 10,000 water-saving fixtures, and our efforts to promote lake-friendly cleaning products and textile sustainability through our unique store and the Off the Rack initiative.

In alignment with our 2023 Strategic Plan, we are now intensely focused on combatting climate change, dedicating our resources and efforts to this existential challenge of our era.
