Living Green Barrie in partnership with the Barrie Native Friendship Centre are proud to host the Maada’ookii Harvest Share, a community event celebrating abundance, learning, and sharing.
Sept 12 @ the Lampman Lane Community Centre
8:30am-1:00pm
Harvest Share will bring the community together around food—sharing it, learning how we grow and use it, and exploring how we can waste less. The event will focus on practical ways to reduce food waste, enjoy more plant-forward meals, and better understand local food security challenges.
Have more garden produce than you can eat? Share it!
Bring your excess homegrown fruits and vegetables to Lampman Lane Park between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Our volunteers will sort and deliver your donations to the Barrie Native Friendship Centre, where they’ll be canned, dehydrated and prepared to share with the Hunger to Hope Program.

9:00 am — Making the Most of Your Fall Garden
- Kimberly Keckes from Moondance Organic Garden will share tips on what to plant, what to harvest and how to keep your garden producing into the fall.
10:00 am — Three Sisters Gardening
- Michelle from the Barrie Native Friendship Centre will introduce us to the Indigenous tradition of growing corn, beans and squash together. Learn how these three crops support one another — and about the Indigenous knowledge and relationships with the land behind this time-tested practice.
11:00 am – From Scraps to Soil: Understanding Barrie’s Curbside Organics Program
- Join City of Barrie staff to discover what happens to your food and organic waste after it goes into the green bin. Learn how Barrie’s curbside organics program works, where collected organics are processed, and how diverting organics from landfill helps create a more sustainable community.
12:00 pm – Community Garden Demonstration
- Join Stephanie Wideman, City of Barrie Parks Program Coordinator, will conduct a live demonstration as we prepare to close the Demonstration Garden plot for the season. This will focus on end-of-season harvesting and garden care, with all proceeds donated to Hunger to Hope.
From a seed to a community initiative
HarvestShare grew out of Doane Grant Thornton’s Vibrant Communities event, where local community organizations came together to explore ways to strengthen connections and build a more vibrant and resilient community.
An idea born around a table has grown into a community initiative — connecting local gardeners with people who can benefit from the food they grow.
